Carnoy Military Cemetery, France

On 27th April, 1916, 7th Bedfordshire of 54 Brigade, 18th Division, were in the line neasr Maricourt on the Somme. At 1.30am they took part, along with 12th Middlesex, in a raid on the German lines opposite them. All did not go according to plan and the raiders failed to enter the German lines and 3 men from 7th Bedfordshire, including Charles Egan, were killed.
